I combine journalism and photography as my way of living. Although I write my own articles to accompany my documentary photography, you can only hire me as a writer or as a photojournalist when it comes to news items. Objectivity is what I aim for in my stories. The images, on the other hand, express my surprise, fascination and admiration for the world around me. With both my photography and my articles I will show you faces of society.

You can contact me for freelance assignments in both fields. My homebase is The Hague, The Netherlands.

    as a journalist

    As a graduated journalist I am interested in the way people look at the societies they are part of. I want to know their philosophies about daily life and their views on politics. That's why I worked for different media. For a significant time I was leading a discussion centre that organised debates, conferences and other socio-political meetings. Nowadays I mainly write stories to my own documentaries.

    social and socio-political issues, science, education and culture.

    Photography classes were part of my studies in graphic design and journalism. I took courses and masterclasses on different subjects. Right now I am studying the full bachelor programme in documentary photography at the Royal Academy of Art.

    I love documentary and street photography. I won’t miss a chance to make a good portrait either. These photos show my background as a journalist. The graphic designer also speaks through my work and leaves its traces in my photography.

    My photos are meant to capture images of this era and to discuss its social and political issues. Every question has a whole range of different answers. I want to show beauty in places that are often depicted horible, and the other way around. I want to show parallel universes and conflicting realities. Blur, sharpness and light are my main ‘tools’.

    In my artwork I like to play with perspectives by either terminating depth or by creating a new space of depth. Well-selected finishing techniques are important to me. They often represent a significant part of my artwork.

    documentary photography and photo journalism, location (and studio) portrait photography, stock photography, and artwork.
